The age of Covid is a time of uncertainty and fear. If there were ever a time to be weary of the future, that time would be now. However, sitting down and looking at the situation, I have to ask myself, what is everybody so scared of?
Now by no means am I referring to the possibility of contracting Covid or the real possibility that it takes your or a loved one’s life. No, no, I’m talking about being afraid of living life to the fullest and chasing your career and personal goals. There has never been a better time to explore the possibilities of living your best self.
Perhaps, it’s not the time to open a restaurant or start a cruise company, but there are probably a handful of very realistic projects that you’ve been putting off for longer than you’ve meant to.
- Ever wanted to get into better shape? Do it now!
- Want to write a novel? You probably have an abundance of time on your hands, so write it!
- Want to learn a new skillor further develop one? Get to work!
With so many people laid off or working reduced hours, the world is ripe for an explosion of individual professional ventures. Never have the means of production been more widely and easily accessible. The internet has changed the game. Fundraising platforms such as Kickstarter and marketing platforms such as XYZ have given people access to tools like the world has never seen. Blogs and websites give any wannabe entrepreneur or artist the means to create a business and gain recognition in their domain.
The fear of rejection, failure, and ridicule are strong deterrents, but what of the alternative? Do you want to simply fade into oblivion? Show up to the same desk every day until it’s time to take the long sleep goodnight? Don’t be dissuaded by your lizard brain! Overcome your baser instincts!
This is call to action to anyone wanting to change their life, anyone who knows they were made for greater things, everyone who is ready to wake up and take control of their own destiny.
You are capable of greatness. You have everything you need to achieve your dreams. People are not going to laugh at you. Get to work. Do your best. Show up every day and do the work that you find meaningful, the work that you find exciting, the work that fulfills your soul. Scare the lizard with your courage to reach for greatness. Now say it with me: I won’t give into my lizard fears!
